Moon Machines


Take the man to the moon and bring him back safe and sound. It sounded like an impossible and crazy mission. Many people had to work hard to make this dream possible, encountering many problems and challenges on their way.

Creating a system (navigation computer) to guide the rocket to the moon was not an easy task, the MIT was in charge of carrying out this important project. In this institution, there were brilliant minds, great research and important technological advances, which would be the basis or guide to create the navigation system for the rocket.


Something that I found very interesting and of great importance and that also relates to some of the basic concepts that we reviewed in the first class of the subject was that, each material and component of the gyroscope and the digital computer for the control and handling of the navigation system, had to be carefully prepared and assembled to obtain a final product with the highest quality and precision, a small error in these components could mean something catastrophic.

To operate the navigation system a computer was necessary, but at that time the computers were huge and their capacities and memory were limited and they overloaded quickly, the idea of prioritizing tasks today seems logical but at that time, but at that moment that idea was very original and innovative, an idea from the mind of a genius. This idea revolutionized the computer and the type of software that had to be developed.

The activities carried out as the L.O.L. method, seemed to extend this project indefinitely, so the course of this important challenge changed completely, due to the lack of time and so many problems found, so new programs had to be written and tested, until finally they achieved it, not without first having finished with some marriages (sad).

A huge challenge in which obviously mistakes would have to be made in order to transform and revolutionize the technology that took the man to the moon.
